Tzouhalem

Tzouhalem

The near-mythic yet historic figure of Cowichan Chief Tzouhalem is explored including his impact on the relationship between the Government and First Nations and how his legend remains alive, examining critically how his story has been passed down to us. Commissioned by Super Channel and CHEK TV, and supported by the Canada Media Fund and the Indigenous Screen Office, the film has enjoyed a successful theatrical run in Canada, and has been an official selection to ten film festivals, receiving its World Premiere at the American Indian Film Festival and its Canadian Premiere at the Whistler Film Festival. It was nominated for two Leo Awards. "A fascinating documentary" -- National Observer “Tzouhalem is a fascinating local legend” – Awesome Friday“Giving a colourful figure his due, but also finding lessons that still resonate” — STIR Vancouver
